About Kendra
Hi, I’m Kendra!
I’m the type of therapist who values the time spent in creating a trusting relationship with my clients. I am profoundly privileged to walk alongside individuals on their journeys of healing and self-discovery.
Whether you're facing challenges, seeking personal growth, or simply in need of a listening ear, I am here to support you on your path towards greater well-being and fulfillment.
You are welcomed, valued, and respected here, just as you are.
I provide individual and group counseling services and have been practicing in the field of mental health for 10 years. I’ve worked in a variety of settings with various populations. I’m a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois and I’ve completed a specialized training through Postpartum Support International as a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional (PMH-C). My bachelor’s degree was completed at Columbia College of Chicago in Dance (yes, I know, doesn’t feel like it makes sense right?).
Originally, I wanted to be a dance/movement therapist, but after graduating and years of post-graduate work experience, that all changed. At the age of 32, I went back to school and obtained a master’s degree in counseling psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
My work in the field of mental health began in community mental health and hospital outpatient clinics. There, I provided support to individuals across the lifespan including children, adolescents, and adults who were grappling with various mental health conditions. In 2017, I transitioned to working in private practice, and in the Fall of 2022, I started my practice, Authentically You Psychotherapy! Thank you for being here.
My personal experiences with fertility challenges along with professional development have guided my decision to focus my ongoing clinical work in reproductive and perinatal mental health. I personally experienced the deep longing for parenthood while navigating infertility, ultimately leading me to pursue IVF. While my primary focus is on reproductive and perinatal mental health, I still allocate space in my caseload and have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, neurodivergence, psychotic disorders, gender identity, and racial identity.
A little about me…
My approach
I utilize a combination of evidence-based modalities including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as holistic and integrative approaches that meet the needs of my clients. Mindfulness is integrated into the treatment process and is an approach I frequently advocate for, encouraging people to be more present in their lives.
As a biracial therapist, I prioritize and commit to providing a safe, affirming, and inclusive space for individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions, as well as diverse racial backgrounds. I acknowledge and address disparities in healthcare, working collaboratively with clients to tailor therapy to their unique needs and goals. Through cultural sensitivity and advocacy, I aim to empower clients and promote equitable access to mental healthcare for all. I celebrate diversity and strive to create an environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported in their journey towards healing and self-discovery.
